Ben and Sandra Backor
Ben and Sandra Backor have lived in Houston for nearly 40 years and have been at Bammel for over 30 years. They have two daughters (Kristen and Lauren) and 3 granddaughters (Noa, Sivan and Maris). Also, 2 son in laws; Yaki and Brandon. Ben and Sandra both taught school and they first met at a Cy Fair ISD "in service" meeting. They have been married for almost 35 years. Sandra loves to travel and is able to get Ben to go with her several times a year. Sandra is retired from paid teaching but she is very active in the Women's Ministry at Bammel. She still uses her teaching skills at Bammel and in ministries around the Church. Ben has been a Shepherd at Bammel since 2007 and also works with the GriefShare ministry. He is still working full time for an energy company. He has been in the energy business since 1981.
Gerald and Cindy Bendele
Gerald and his bride, Cindy, came to know, believe and obey the gospel of Jesus Christ at Bammel in March of 1989. He began serving as a shepherd in 2002 and currently serves in the New Beginnings recovery ministry. She serves in the GriefShare ministry. Their daughter and son-in-law have blessed them with 4 precious grandchildren. Cindy enjoys spoiling the grandchildren whenever Gerald is out pursuing his mountain climbing hobby!
Marty and Terry Davis
Marty and Terry met at Harding University where Terry received a degree in elementary education and Marty in chemistry. They were married in 1979 and have three children, Caleb, Luke and Hannah and are currently in a holding pattern with four grandkids. They have been members at Bammel since 1980 when they moved back to Houston and Marty has been an elder since 2007. Marty currently works at Anadarko Petroleum in the global geoscience systems group of their IT department (no he probably cannot fix your computer) and Terry currently stays busy with volunteer work and Bible studies after teaching at Northland Christian School for over twenty years.
Dan and Marianne Fayrweather
Dan fell in love with Marianne in the summer of 1962. They got married in January 1966, and he graduated in January 1967 from San Diego State University with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Dan’s first job took them to Connecticut for two years, then to Phoenix for 13 years, where he and Marianne had three kids. They moved to Houston in 1981 and started attending Bammel in 1983. The first 22 years of Dan’s career were spent in the gas turbine industry, and the second 22 years were spent in Project Management, engineering offshore platforms for the oil industry. Work sent Dan all over the world, but after 44 years, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and eight grandkids, he retired in 2010 to a life of relaxation, travel, and caring for the church.
Rick and Steva Flowers
Rick, along with his wife, Steva, began attending Bammel in the summer of 2005. They have been married 33 years and have three grown children. Rick likes being involved with missions and has participated in many missions trips over the years. He also likes working with the youth and organizing special events.
Jimmy and Becky Poindexter
Jimmy and Becky met their freshman year at Lubbock Christian University and were married in Jal, NM in 1977. After living 13 years in Hobbs, NM, they moved to Houston and began attending Bammel in 1997. Their daughters, Kaela and Lara, graduated from ACU and later two exceptional son-in-laws, Bill and Clark, and a precious grandson were added to the family. Jimmy worked for a major service company in the energy industry for 30 years and then joined a small specialty chemical company in 2010. Becky has worked as a ministry assistant in the Bammel church office since 2000. Jimmy enjoys being a part of Bammel’s Worship Team, as well as serving in several other ministries. They enjoy traveling, including frequent trips to Chicago and Dallas to visit their family. Jimmy has been a shepherd since 2007 and considers it a joy to serve God and a church family who have blessed him, and his family, beyond measure.
Chuck and Laura Rathbun
Chuck came to Bammel in 1981 where he met his wife, Laura, in the youth group. They have been married 30 years now. They have two wonderful boys, Taylor and Mason, who will be heading to Texas A&M to finish their studies. Chuck loves the acceptance, love, and forgiveness that he feels at Bammel. He has spent over 30 years with the Kroger company and he loves to fish, both freshwater and saltwater.
Darryl and Amy Schlottman
Darryl and his wife Amy arrived in Houston from Indiana in 1989 and have been at Bammel ever since. They have two grown children, David and Andrea. Darryl is a graduate of Indiana State University, and recently completed a MA Degree in Christian Ministry at Abilene Christian University. He and Amy enjoy traveling and experiencing the beauty and diversity of God’s creation, and are both active in Bammel’s Manna and Spanish ministries. Some of Darryl’s favorite things are airplanes, good coffee, football (Texans, Aggies, and Baylor), and sharing life’s laughter, struggles and pupusas with the great Bammel family.
Bobby and Donna Stephen
Bobby and Donna Stephen were married at Bammel in 1982, and have been worshiping with the Bammel church since that time. They met on a youth group mission trip in Colorado during high school, and then both attended Abilene Christian University. They have two sons who grew up at Bammel: Ryan, who is married to Jamie and lives in Austin; and Grant, who lives in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Bobby is a general dentist, and Donna is a retired public school speech pathologist, and is now Bobby's office manager. They both enjoy traveling and finding new restaurants to enjoy in the Houston area.
Rob and Ellen Sutphen
Rob and Ellen Sutphen have been at Bammel since 2000. They have one daughter, Abigail, living in Seattle. At the moment Rob is a retired lawyer, but that could change.
Ken and Darla Whitehead
Members at Bammel since 1989, Ken and his wife Darla have raised two sons at Bammel and have been active in a broad range of activities including Youth and Children’s’ ministries and the Grief Share outreach. Ken is a Design-for-Manufacturing Advisor at Baker-Hughes and enjoys photography as a means to focus upon and share God’s wondrous creation and gifts.
